National WEEE Assessment of 11 Caribbean Countries – 2026

Eleven new national assessments, covering the Caribbean region, show what can be measured now and where better reporting is needed. Training in the tools used for the assessments helps national partners understand how to update the numbers as new information becomes available.
To estimate the amount of e-waste generated, the work starts with electrical and electronic equipment placed on each national market, draws on trade or other available data, and applies product lifetime assumptions. The national reports then consider where discarded equipment goes, what collection and treatment capacity exists, and what economic, legal and institutional information can support action.

The accompanying training focused on applying the tools behind these assessments. National partners worked on estimates of equipment put on the market and e-waste generated, alongside economic impacts and the prices of recovered components. Discussion also addressed legislation, technical infrastructure and other e-waste management aspects, including the role of the informal sector, and how better data can help shape national decisions. Data limitations remain, and estimates should be updated as reporting improves.
